I am a firm believer of appreciating all things in life, big or small, happy or sad. Everything happens for a reason and I try to see the lesson in it all. Sometimes we get so caught up in the big picture, of the big change, that we forget to stop, look at and appreciate the little joys of life.Like watching the sunset, the way the clouds partially covers the moon, the shape and smell of a flower. Little perfect creations of God that we tend to overlook, because they are small but can bring lasting joy.
The same goes with people, every interaction doesn’t have to major, sometimes its the little acts of kindness, be it a word or gesture that can change a person’s mood or reaction. The other day at work, I was feeling a bit down, and unhappy for no particular reason at all. Then I bumped into a good friend who started a conversation, which turned into laughs which took the frown from my face. To be totally honest I don’t remember what the conversation was about or what was so funny, I just remember the feeling of happiness and joy and the smile brought to my face because of being around that other person.
So today, while most are making huge resolutions for the New Year why not take the time to make a conscious decision to start appreciating the little joys of life. Smile more, pay attention to nature, look up in the clouds for inspiration and peace. Appreciate all the wonders around you.
