Inspiration Part I

I find inspiration in many different places in life. Depending on how I feel or my particular outlook on a particular day, I can find inspiration in my daily wanderings, in nature, birds flying overhead, the weather. Life inspires if lived correctly. Another huge source of inspiration comes from the various books that I read. As stated in a previous post, I am an avid reader, and as such I come across many words of inspiration that motivate me or move me in some way. Today I will share a few gems with you. Enjoy!

“It takes a minute to have a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone…but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.”

“To belittle, you have to be little.”

“One’s own religion is after all a matter between oneself and one’s Maker and no one else’s.”

“Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary.”

“Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.”

The above quotes were taken from “The Treasured Writings of Kahlil Gibran.”  This book has a whole lot of gems inside that I have fallen in love with, words of wisdom and words to live by.  I am still reading this book and will probably share more words of wisdom at a later date.

The quote that will follow is taken from “Sister Outsider” by Audre Lorde.  It’s from an essay entitled “The Master’s Tool Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House.

“Those of us who stand outside the circle of this society’s definition of acceptable women; those of us who have been forged in the crucibles of difference…know that survival is not an academic skill.  It is learning how to stand alone, unpopular and sometimes reviled, and how to make common cause with those others identified as outside the structures in order to define and seek a world in which we can all flourish.  It is learning to take our differences and make them strengths.”
